Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
A new year is upon us! Many people have spent the last few days contemplating new beginnings, new commitments, new behaviors, new attitudes and more. Because we want to LOOK new, we begin this new walk with great confidence – certain that this time we will stick to the diet, remain committed to the workout routine, change the eating habits, transform our attitudes about saving money, or determine to maintain the right relationships.
In 2 Corinthians 5, Paul expounded on the opportunity to BE new for those who are in Jesus Christ. Becoming a new creation means we have exchanged the former things for something, well, new. We have exchanged our former view of the Jesus in the manger for the new understanding of Jesus, the Christ, the Son of the Living God – Savior, Redeemer, Restorer, Sustainer and Lord. We change our perception of others as we seek to forgive and restore; encourage and support; love and serve one another. We also change our view of self. As we understand the position of citizenship in the Kingdom of God, we determine to walk worthy of the privilege – in attitude, in thought, in speech and in conduct – in every area of our lives. It’s a new year! Time to walk in NEWness!
